Raúl Viceiro Fernández – Bassoon
Raúl Viceiro Fernández was born in Pontevedra, Spain, in February 1997. He began playing the bassoon at the age of 7 under the influence of his father and enrolled in the Professional Conservatory of Pontevedra, where he completed his studies in 2015 under the guidance of Ferran Calatayud Más.
Upon graduating from the Professional Conservatory, he was accepted into the Escola de Altos Estudios Musicais in Santiago, where he received instruction from Juan Carlos Otero and Manuel Martínez. In 2016, he furthered his bassoon studies at the ESMUC, in Barcelona, under the tutelage of maestro Salvador Sanchís Durà.
Raúl decided to pursue his musical career by obtaining a master’s degree at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussels (KCB) with bassoonist Alain Cremers.
He has participated in masterclasses with renowned bassoon players such as Gustavo Núñez, Mor Biron, María José Rielo Blanco, Guillermo Salcedo, Francisco Alonso, Enrique Abargues, among others.
In the orchestral realm, Raúl has contributed to productions with the Young National Orchestra of Catalonia (JONC), Camera Musicae Orchestra (OCM), Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National of Catalonia (OBC), Orchestra of the Palau de les Arts de Valencia, and Opera Royal de Wallonie Liège.
During the 2021-2022 season, Raúl held the academist position of the La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra and the Belgian National Orchestra. Currently, he collaborates often with them, as well as with the L’Opera Royal de Wallonie-Liège, among others.
